Truphone celebrates 10 millionth eSIM profile
eSIM pioneer reaches milestone within 29 months; provisions 25,000 eSIM profiles per day
Today Truphone is proud to announce it has provisioned its 10 millionth eSIM via its remote SIM provisioning platform.
Signalling the technology’s growing prevalence within the mobile industry, the London-based tech company that began pioneering eSIM in 2018 reaches this milestone within 29 months of operation. It now connects up to 25,000 new eSIM devices every day.
A global network operator turned eSIM leader, Truphone’s unique end-to-end software based services, entirely based on its own IP, includes a SIM operating system, multiple GSMA-accredited platforms, Entitlement Server, Bootstrap, CMP and global connectivity which has allowed it to scale its IoT offerings much faster and more expansively than its competitors.
The 10 million mark signifies Truphone’s swift rise to a dominant market position. In January 2021, it was named as one of the top three eSIM providers globally—alongside traditional SIM manufacturers . It provides state-of-the-art SIM services and technology to consumer electronics giants, IoT/M2M devicemakers, chipset manufacturers and mobile network operators.
The landmark achievement is also reflective of the mobile industry’s fast-growing aptitude for adopting eSIM in the mainstream. Truphone’s own research in late 2020 revealed that 65% of mobile network operators around the world plan to use eSIM for a significant proportion of their connections by 2025; one in five planning for almost 100% penetration.
Ralph Steffens, CEO, Truphone said: “In 2016, Truphone developed a clear view that eSIM would soon be the dominant method of connecting devices. Since then, we have introduced new software and infrastructure to make it easy for device makers, chipmakers and network operators to embrace the shift towards eSIM to drive product innovation and customer advocacy faster than ever.
“That our platform has provisioned 10 million eSIM profiles from a standing start within just 29 months is testament to the quality and resilience of the products we have built and the service we pride ourselves on. But this milestone represents just the beginning of our journey.”
“We know the eSIM revolution is here and, crucially, we know that Truphone is ready and able to lead the way.”
Truphone’s eSIM solutions
Remote SIM provisioning for operators
Truphone’s GSMA-accredited data centres in London and Amsterdam house Truphone’s SIM profiles which are provisioned to the end user via Truphone’s remote SIM provisioning platform—used by over 30 major mobile operators worldwide.
Global bootstrap for devicemakers
Truphone’s innovative global bootstrap solution can be embedded onto the device at point of manufacture, allowing a device to remotely connect to a discovery server and download an operational profile. By virtue of its global operation, Truphone is the preferred bootstrap provider for major electronics manufacturers and connects some of the world’s most famous tablets, wearables and IoT devices anywhere in the world, out of the box.
Affordable data for consumers
One of the first applications of Truphone’s GSMA-accredited eSIM software was its easy to use, great value data plans for iPad, which can be purchased from within the iOS platform. The My Truphone app for smartphones followed in 2018 for iPhone and 2019 for Android. Both provide users affordable over-the-air data packages to use at home or around the world.
Apple Watch Family Setup
In September 2020, Truphone collaborated with long-time partner Apple to provide connectivity for Apple Watch Family Setup—a new feature which allowed the Apple Watch to operate independently of an iPhone for the first time, with its own number.
More seamless estate management for enterprise
Truphone is seeing a marked increase in organisations who see the benefits of a workforce connected via eSIM. The company is helping many of its business and finance customers make the shift from physical SIM to eSIM across their mobile estate—all the while reducing their reliance on their use of plastic.
Acceleration of the IoT
IoT manufacturers also reap the benefits of eSIM and are increasingly adopting it into the design of their devices. The removal of the SIM slot grants more technological real estate, means the SIM itself no longer needs to be physically accessible on the device and securely and seamlessly connects remote or roving devices over the air.
