Truphone announces IoT collaboration with Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation’s Spresense™ IoT solution
UK-based MVNO Truphone, the world’s first global mobile network and eSIM software pioneer, collaborates with Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation, (“Sony”), enabling global connectivity for their SPRESENSE™ IoT solution.
With the joint collaboration in place, Sony’s state-of-the-art SPRESENSE LTE extension boards are set up to offer Truphone’s unparalleled “out of the box” global connectivity, allowing IoT developers to network their devices more easily than ever, no matter where they are in the world. Enabled by a single SIM card, hundreds of mobile network operators are controlled through a centralised Portal to create a future-proof solution that ensures you can connect, monitor and control vast numbers of devices remotely and securely.
Many IoT devices incorporate sensors that rely on cellular connectivity to send and receive data, including images from cameras. Sony’s SPRESENSE LTE extension boards enable IoT developers to create those connections through the LTE Cat-M1 and NB-IoT (NarrowBand IoT) standards and offer a unique combination of extensive computing power and advanced power consumption that’s efficient enough to run on a battery, making them perfect for a range of IoT and Edge computing use cases.
Equipped with smart sensing processors for IoT applications, the extension boards will join the SPRESENSE line of board products and are expected to encourage even greater IoT development.
Michael Moorfield, Truphone’s Chief Technology Officer said: “We’re immensely proud to collaborate with Sony in helping enhance their world-class IoT solution with Truphone’s global connectivity. With our unique network orchestration capabilities we facilitate access to LTE-M and NB-IoT with our carrier partners. We are delighted to help Sony enable developers to connect their solutions around the world and to be an integral part of the brilliant things they create.”
Kenichi Nakano, General Manager of IoT Solutions Business Division at Sony Semiconductor Corporation said: “Collaboration with Truphone enables global connectivity to our IoT SPRESENSE solution. Providing an out-of-the-box experience assures our customers can be dedicated to driving innovative IoT solutions”
SPRESENSE is a trademark of Sony Group Corporation.
About the Truphone eSIM
Truphone eSIM operating system implements GSMA specifications and is compatible with any GSMA-compliant remote SIM provisioning platform, including but not limited to Truphone's own GSMA-accredited remote SIM provisioning platform. This means that the eSIM can securely provision and store multiple operator profiles in a single secure element for both consumer and M2M devices.
Truphone eSIM supports the interfaces to provide remote provisioning and is aligned to the latest 3GPP, JavaCard, SIMAlliance, ETSI and GSMA specifications.
About the Truphone Network
Truphone's global network solution simplifies how devices connect to mobile networks. Its comprehensive, robust coverage connects to multiple network operators in every region and provides access to all network types on demand. Whether a device uses the connectivity for 10 seconds or 10 years, enabling default connectivity for a mobile device unlocks endless possibilities for how customers activate and manage their connected devices across the world.
We’re on a mission to connect the world seamlessly.
That’s why we aim to enable more connections than anyone else and why we’ve been pioneering the eSIM revolution from the very beginning.
From international enterprises and consumers to IOT device makers and Telecommunications operators, our global network and connectivity solutions enable people, devices and networks to connect anywhere, instantly, with one platform to connect billions.
