eSIM technology is set to change the face of telecoms by offering unparalleled flexibility for consumers.

London, UK: 4th December 2018: Today Truphone announces that its eSIM connectivity will be available on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, as Google expands its eSIM compatibility.

In 2017, the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL became the first major smartphones to be eSIM compatible, firmly establishing Google as a trailblazer in the eSIM revolution. Starting this year with the release of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, Google is expanding its eSIM capabilities to allow customers to choose plans from carriers pioneering the eSIM space.

Truphone is also at the forefront of this eSIM revolution and offers eSIM for Pixel 3 in the US, the UK, Australia, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Spain. Using the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, users of eSIM-enabled devices on Android will be able to access Truphone's network directly from their handset. They can just turn on their devices and download the mobile plan of their choosing, at the push of a button.

Both Google and Truphone are helping accelerate the adoption of eSIM technology in the connected device market. While Google has announced a program for Android device makers that utilizes the eSIM support to enable any Android phone maker to build eSIM capable smartphones; Truphone is opening its SIM technology to other mobile operators to launch eSIM enabled devices. Its GSMA-accredited remote SIM provisioning platform allows mobile operators to provide support for eSIM enabled devices any time, over the air.

Steve Alder, Chief Business Development Officer at Truphone said: "As Google expands its eSIM capabilities on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, we are incredibly proud that Truphone is a carrier partner for the Android space—and is an integral part of the eSIM ecosystem for Android users.

"We've been able to offer support for eSIM on many device ecosystems so swiftly because – unlike many other carriers – we've used our own technology to get our network live on the Pixel 3 and Android-enabled digital eSIM. That's our own SIM technology, our own remote provisioning platform and our own digital profiles—all accredited by the GSMA. It's increasingly clear that the eSIM is the future of cellular connectivity and we're offering our technology to other carriers which may wish to join us in the Android eSIM landscape."

Ralph Steffens Chief Executive Officer at Truphone, commented, "This new technology signifies a massive shift in the telecommunications industry. It's having an impact on everyone from phone providers to chipset manufacturers to mobile network operators. But most importantly, it directly impacts businesses and consumers by offering them more flexibility over their mobile connectivity. We are thrilled to be one of the first organisations to offer competitive and functional solutions for those using eSIM on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Moreover, we look forward to providing the technology to enable other operators do the same."
